Study 46: Art Resolutions-Deeper and Deeper

imageArt Resolutions is a self-imposed initiative to create an art study every day for a year. Welcome to Study 46.

An artist’s explores. Like an actor, the artist consciously or unconsciously searches for the back story, motivation, drive, and history behind her/his work. Going back to my rehabilitated watercolor, I considered what was lacking. The gap was a lack of anything to make it compelling. And I considered for a while what a grassy shoreline could offer. The grass colors were “pretty.” The lake blue lovely. But in all, this small piece lacked the scope and scale to command more than a fleeting glance.

What lay beneath? A dead body? A lost ring? The covered garden of an insect subculture? The idea of an under life appealed to me. Miles of grass covered tunnels with small stone monuments and fragments left by travelers long gone. The study and consideration of each blade of grass, each twig, each stone. I am not done exploring but here are the fruits of the burrowing thus far.
