Study 34: Art Resolutions-The curious case of inspiration

imageArt Resolutions is a self-imposed initiative to create an art study each day for a year. Welcome to Study 34.

It began some time last year when I was admiring the purple shamrock plant sitting on my studio window sill. The individual leaves looked like whale tails to me. I found it a lovely delicate thing and did a study in pencil and watercolor. Then last week, I was admiring the carpet pattern in my bathroom rug. Carpet designs are often inspired by plants and flowers.

Of course, by Sunday the shamrock motif manifest itself in the felted pin. By yesterday my subliminal Autobi0-2-dish still lifemeanderings had connected back to the carpet design and I took one of the shamrocks planted with a Christmas cactus and began to play with how they might come together in a carpet design. Art imagemarkers and pencil and some time brought about this study of what might be the beginnings of a carpet’s central medalion. The creative process is a fascinating thing.

Bea from Dog-in-the-Hole Studio sent a link to her latest Monday black and white studies and they are wonderful. Another interesting look into what around us can inspire.

I love these drawings and sketches. I can see endless possibilities for stamps, screen printing on fabric and so on. They are just lovely. Thank you for the link to my blog. I am having so much fun with finding interesting compositions around me in black and white. Thanks for inspiring me to get going on this project. 🙂
