Creative Meditation #14: The Open Sky Sonata

An exquisite 150 minutes at 25k feet between San Antonio and Cincinnati on June 4, 2014.

Another plane; another plain

25000 steps above the world
In Georgia’s space
Floating in ephemeral fields
Amid gossamer sheep

as one with untoasted cloud meringues
cotton mattress paralyzed explosions

Companion planets

imageDistinct but not equal

We share the sky
not a part of us
Covering one and surrounding     the other                                     distinct and disparate

We are a composition of planes
The river divides the land
The sky divides the planets
The plane divides the sky

imageThe monster cumulus divides the horizon                                              now foamy seas of cirrus move through
Filling my view, separating me from blue
Outer space has become inner space

We, travelers, quietly glide past
Vast and growing ranges of celestial peaks
Heavenly cliffs of Dover with sea hovering above

imageFat fluffy families strolling                   A trancelike migration west.    Wednesday afternoon in the atmospheric park                            the foothills of the cosmos

No peer pressure, merely shared unconsciousness                         Floating down a lazy river of ether Under a newly summer sky

The helium is spent. A slow merger begins. Freedom will soon be joined to flatness.

imagefor now, I am              Unimpressed by the surface monsters                                            And minor monuments of man                                                        that will eclipse me when I land

the great river severs the land

It alone is not dwarfed
Through what filament of consciousness did we pass
That stole my cosmic awe in just a moment
