Creative Meditation #9: The Work

The Creative Meditation is a new project that has grown out of last year’s “Something Beautiful” initiative. It may happen every day or when the spirit moves me.

This week was about moving through hard things. Being pinned to the ground. Trapped. A deadline was involved and four months of anticipation. Once the deadline was met, the relief was euphoric. Freedom—wild, heady escape from musts and what ifs—and is it enough? Those chipmunks of innovation powering the treadmill of my mind had a field day. Four poems. Two paintings. Five sketches. Most the continuing exploration of  the Indiana farm. All part of the harvest—”the work.”

I flipped the rock
I did the work
I plumbed the line
And stirred the murk.

I judged the notions
Stayed the course
I wrangled rogues
With brutal force.

I laughed a bitbrown co abstract
Absurd amid
My going abstract
Through a grid.

The contradictions
If embraced
Propel us to
An open space.

This I traveled
—Traveled farabstract-color-brown co farm
The route I chose
Ties to a star.
