Something Beautiful is a self-imposed initiative to find a visual feast for each day of the year.
Paris. September 11, 2013. Europe’s magnificent churches are a given on a trip overseas. That said, I had no desire to stand in lines to see the insides of churches. I had to make a decision about where I would invest time to see something. In Paris, we waited for the Musee d’Orsay, the Musee de l’Orangerie, to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and a short wait to get into the one famous church on our tour list—Sainte-Chappelle.
Interestingly, my image searches early in this “Something Beautiful” year came upon this exquisite church which I did not know at that time. Other churches have larger collections and more spectacular art, sculpture, frescos, paintings, and architectural details comparatively. But the massive blue windows of Sainte-Chappelle are what make it stunning. I am delighted to say that the site lived up to what I expected and more. And so, I am thrilled to spotlight Sainte-Chappelle once again—but with my own photo. Sublimely beautiful.
