Day 176: Something Beautiful—Cool, Clear Water

Something Beautiful is a self-imposed initiative to find a visual feast for each day of a year.

Pushing 100 degrees and humid in Cincinnati. The dog days are here and early. As a I age, some of the things that delighted me in my youth—don’t anymore. But swimming and spending an afternoon in and by the water is still summer — still restorative — still a connection to hopeful and free summers of my youth.

My son Thomas, his significant Cassie, and sidekick Bruce left at 1:30pm after a wonderful weekend of observing my kid’s 24th year on this earth. Yes. There is always a little sadness when the kids leave, but the humidity and early mornings and full days left me tired. I thought about being held hostage in the house and then I thought about the pool. Outside of my kids and “my people,” there are few things better than a book, a pool, sun, and slipping away for a few hours in the cool, clear water or acqua fresca e limpida.
