Day 166: Something Beautiful—The Wondrous Road Trip

Something Beautiful is a self-imposed initiative to find a visual feast for each day of a year.

Tomorrow I head to Bloomington, Indiana to visit my youngest son, his girlfriend, their cat, and her mother. A road trip. A favorite pastime. A chance to fill my head with fresh thoughts and pictures. Scouting beautiful places to paint and connect with nature.

I meet Cassie and her mother in Nashville, a quaint artist community. From an earlier trip, I know there are charming streets and picturesque architecture in this little town outside Bloomington. The previous trip, though, has me also looking forward to a drive through Brown County State Park. Indiana has a reputation for being flat but this part of the state reminds me more of Wisconsin. Rolling vistas and rock outcroppings. In my research on the park, I came upon these photos of the park’s Lookout Tower. The bottom photo was taken by Veronica Wald and is featured on her blog, Amusing Musings. I enjoyed her stories of the park. In fact, I enjoyed her writing.

And, so, the tower is on my list of things to see. Beautiful things on a viaggio su strada meravigliosa — wondrous road trip.
