Day 164: Something Beautiful—Bella ricordi lago

Something Beautiful is a self-imposed initiative to find a visual feast for each day of a year.

Thirteen years ago, I took Philip to Space Academy. He’d saved money for a long time to go to the Huntsville, Alabama camp for bright kids who love rockets. That experience was a peak memory for the entire family. A proud moment for Philip as his team won the simulator competition and distinction of the highest score ever achieved. I remember how hot the afternoon and how cool an event the Academy graduation was. Better than any other graduation I’ve ever attended. All the pomp and circumstance of high school or college but the shine on my kid’s face was better than anything.

Although Philip had the bigger story on that trip, Thomas and I drove him down and stayed in the area. We had our own adventure. We planned to camp. A plan that went “south” and a long story for another time. With camping gear backed, we went in search of an inspirational spot and found Lake Guntersville State Park. Stayed a the old lodge with this phenomenal view. Bonding time for Thomas and me. I have a carved duck he bought me. I think I now have the stuffed raccoon I bought him. Beautiful lake memories. Bela ricordi lago.

I never knew Phil went there. I had to laugh, I misread the sentence and thought that you now stuffed the raccoon.
