Something Beautiful is a 2013 self-imposed initiative to find a visual feast for each day of the year.
Barns charm me. So do cottages, broad board porches with ceiling hung swings. Lodges like they used to be with local stone in their facades, lemonade sipping porches, and great boulder fireplaces. An hour yesterday catching up with dear sister, Rose, in Vermont stirred a kaleidescope of Adirondack memories. The Eleven Lakes wine trail. Clear beautiful lakes and their cottages where, I know if went for a summer, I would pen my own deep and ponderous thoughts—my modern day “On the Road.”
Lodges. As if driven beyond my will—I began searching for lodges today. Then Adirondack Lodges. After only a few, Mirror Lake Inn crooked its index finger and I blindly obeyed.
The Mirror Lake Inn, Lake Placid, New York. It is only an hour and a half from Rose’s and Dennis’ house. Already, it is my placid muse. The spa for Rosie. For me—a poem, a painting, a book’s first draft. OK, outline—and much more.
